Question
This is the second wedding
for both my fiancé and I. We have most of the things we need for our
household as we are both in our early 40's. Should we still register
for the things we don't have? also, so friends suggested we have a
money tree where people can hang envelopes on a small tree and
"donate" money toward our honeymoon or household needs. They suggested
we put a small card in our invitation that mentions this money tree.
This doesn't seem like good etiquette to me. What would you suggest
regarding registering or a money tree (since it's our second wedding).

Answer
Dear Kelly:
This is always an area of gray and hard to decide on what is the
best etiquette. My suggestion would be to let word of mouth travel
through your family that the two of you do not need any gifts but
instead would prefer money. Additionally, you can let your guests
know that you would like gift certificates towards Home Depot if you
are building a new home or want to do home improvements. I have
also had couples register at furniture stores for new furniture and
have guests buy gift certificates towards the high priced items. I
would not suggest putting an announcement in the invitations about a
money tree instead I would let the information travel via word of
mouth. I hope this helps with your dilemma.
Best Wishes on your day!
